Our History

This Institute was founded in 1609 by Mary Ward, an English woman.

Loreto Sisters arrived in Mauritius in 1845 and started educating girls.

A day school for primary and secondary pupils was opened in Vacoas in 1935. The junior schools of Vacoas and Quatre-Bornes were amalgamated in Vacoas in January 1977. Henceforth the school was known as “Ecole de Lorette Vacoas”

Ecole de Lorette Vacoas is a private Catholic Primary School with approximately 600 pupils. It is one of many schools throughout the world directed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto Sisters).
